The library celebrated Kathy Jackson’s 31 years of service as Acquisitions Specialist with a retirement party on Monday, Aug. 31. Kathy worked “behind the scenes” to order books and videos for the library. Library Director Carla Tracy estimates that Kathy ordered over 130,000 materials during her years in the library! Kathy shared that when she first started her job, it took about 6 – 10 weeks for books to arrive. Now, fortunately, they come much faster than that!
The library wishes Kathy all the best as she moves into retirement. Thanks, Kathy, for all your hard work over the past three decades!

Librarians Anne Earel, Amanda Makula, and Connie Ghinazzi attended the 14th national Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) conference in Seattle, Washington on March 12-15. Anne and Amanda presented a poster at the conference: “Enhancing Pedagogy Through Technology: Using Beyond Question and RefWorks to Engage Students in Information Literacy Across the Curriculum.” The poster highlighted Amanda’s work with first-year students using an audience response system (“clickers”) and Anne’s utilization of collaborative bibliographies in RefWorks within an upper-level Anthropology course.
Other conference events included keynote speeches by author Sherman Alexie and radio host Ira Glass, as well as numerous workshops, paper presentations, panel discussions, and vendor exhibits. The three librarians had a wonderful time seeing what other academic libraries are doing and came back to Augustana with some exciting new ideas!
In addition to the conference, they were able to enjoy the city’s many sights and sounds. They visited the famous Pike Place fish market, the original Starbucks store, Snoqualmie Falls, Boehm’s local chocolate factory, and Chateau Ste. Michelle winery. They also caught a glimpse of the beautiful Seattle public library!

Hello! My name is Katie Reinhardt and I am the new Special Collections Associate. I am delighted to be joining the Tredway Library on a permanent basis. Last year I was fortunate enough to work on a project cataloging titles in the Reformation Imprints Collection in the Special Collections department. Before moving to the Quad Cities in the summer of 2007, I was a cataloger at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C. I have worked as both a librarian and an archivist in historical societies and academic libraries in Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire. My education includes a B.A. from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME, an M.A. in U.S. History from the University of New Hampshire, and an MLIS from Simmons College Graduate School of Library and Information Science in Boston, MA. I live in Bettendorf with my husband, Dan Malachuk, professor of English at the Quad Cities campus of Western Illinois University, my seven-year-old son Paul, and Hector the warrior-cat.
